When I was in High School in 1994, a few of my friends starting playing this obscure card game called Magic the Gathering. I didn’t understand it, but it seemed interesting. Fast forward 26 years and I had some time during Covid-19 to finally investigate the game. All I can say is I love it and wish I had started earlier.
It’s evolved into a rich ecosystem with huge player numbers and burgeoning professional tour. It’s not expensive or complicated to get started but very difficult to master. The digital experience is just as good as the tabletop one, so I’m calling this a Sport, as in E-Sport or tabletop sport. I’ll write about interesting Magic topics in the sports section of the blog from now on.
